Small-group expeditions · Panama · The Philippines

Up the river, to the people who've always been there.

Quiet, hand-led journeys into Indigenous communities — guided by people who live there, shared over a feast, and built so the village is better off for your visit.

Why we go

Not a tour you watch. A welcome you're part of.

Most "cultural tours" keep you behind glass — a photo stop, a souvenir, a bus. We do the opposite. You travel in small numbers, you're hosted by the community itself, and the centerpiece is a feast you share at the same table. Your visit is coordinated directly with the people who live there, and part of what you pay stays with them.

Founded by a U.S. combat veteran. Run on real relationships, not brochures.

The expeditions

Two rivers. Two welcomes.

Panama · Chagres

The Emberá River Journey

Met in Panama City and carried up the Chagres by dugout canoe to an Emberá village deep in the rainforest — one of the safest and most welcoming Indigenous experiences in Central America. Music, the river, the forest, and a feast prepared by your hosts.

  • Private ground transfer & river canoe
  • Hosted day in the Emberá community
  • Shared traditional feast
  • Local guide who knows the families
  • Small groups (4–8 travelers)
Pricing on request per person · flights not included
Philippines · Batangas & the islands

The Island Tribes Expedition

Met on arrival and brought to Batangas harbor, where you cross to meet communities our team has known and worked with for years. Days with the tribes, a shared feast, and a window into a way of life few outsiders ever see — hosted by people we trust completely.

  • Airport pickup & harbor transfer
  • Days hosted among the communities
  • Shared traditional feast
  • Experienced local guide & coordinator
  • Small groups (4–8 travelers)
Pricing on request per person · flights not included

The feast & the gift

The part that stays behind.

Every journey is built so the community is better off for your visit — not just entertained by it. There are two simple parts to that, and we keep them clearly separate.

Your journey

Your trip fee covers the experience — the transport, the hosting, the guide, and the feast you share at the table. This is the cost of the journey itself.

Paid to Global Roots Tours

Your gift

Travelers may also make a separate, voluntary gift to Children of the Jungle, our 501(c)(3) nonprofit, which funds food programs and supplies for these communities year-round. Gifts are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

How it works

Simple, by design.

01

Tell us who's coming

Reach out with your dates, group size, and which expedition. We confirm what's possible with the community.

02

Book your own flights

You arrange your international airfare; we handle everything from the moment you land.

03

We carry the rest

Ground transport, your local host, the community visit, and the feast — coordinated and confirmed before you arrive.

"Built on relationships, not brochures."

Who's behind this

Real ground. Real people. Real trust.

Global Roots Tours is run by a U.S. Army combat veteran who has lived and worked in these communities — not a call center booking from a catalog. Every host on the ground is someone we know by name. The same network powers Children of the Jungle, the nonprofit that supports these families long after the travelers fly home.

Tell us your dates and who's coming. Journeys are small and personal, so we take a limited number at a time.
